D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) |
|
Collaborative effort by DARE certified
law enforcement officers, educators, students, parents, and
community to offer an educational program in the classroom
to prevent or reduce drug abuse and violence among children
and youth; helps students recognize and resist many direct
and subtle pressures that influence them to experiment with
alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, inhalants, or other drugs, or
to engage in violence; promotes bonding to family, school,
and community; emphasizes strategies focusing on development
of social competence, communication skills, self-esteem, empathy,
decision making, conflict resolution, sense of purpose and
independence, and positive alternative activities.
Police officers teach weekly classroom lessons in grades 5 or 6 with
suggested extended activities that can be integrated into other instruction
by the classroom teacher; includes parent education and parent outreach
and support.

Indoor and outdoor challenging
activities for youth, including climbing walls, ropes courses,
and other related activities; locations vary, and include The
Barn at Neshaminy Manor Center and Nockamixon State Park; stressful
challenge activities in a social setting to produce positive
feelings, social bonding, and self-esteem.

responsibility, sound decision making, trust building, positive
risk taking and overcoming fear. Programs using ropes courses
are held on TODAY's grounds; other activities can be brought
to another site.
* Adventure Based Staff Development: time-adjusted training
is appropriate for in-service instruction; components can be
customized to address specific needs of your staff and could
include activities based on cooperation, risk taking, bonding,
team work, responsibility and healthy competition. Can be held
indoors or outdoors, at your location or at TODAY, Inc.

Continuum of Conflict: Anger Management,
Conflict Resolution, and Peer Mediation; each of these three
programs is for teachers who want their students to have better
ways of handling everyday conflicts other than physical fighting,
name-calling, complaining to the teacher, or simply withdrawing;
students become aware of their choices in conflict situations
and learn how to approach the conflict in their lives with
greater confidence and independence.
* Anger Management: K through 12th student training is
ten one hour sessions with enhanced training and support as needed;
faculty training is ½ day with ongoing support as needed.
* Conflict Resolution: K through 12th student training
is ten one hour sessions with enhanced training and support as
needed; faculty training is one day with ongoing support.
* Peer Mediation: 6th through 12th student training is
two days with ongoing support and enhanced training; faculty
training is two days with ongoing support.

the Classroom: for school personnel to learn techniques
and strategies to prevent and manage conflict and implement
problem solving socialization skills.
$275 or $325 per person for 3-day or 4-day training, respectively.
* Conflict Resolution/Peer Mediation: two hour program provides
an overview of conflict/peer mediation for parents of elementary school
children.
$150 for up to 50 participants (includes materials)
* Peer Helper/Conflict Manager Training: experiential three-day
training of trainers to provide school personnel with skills to train
students for a peer helper program; cost same as first program listed.
* Working It Out: Tools for Everyday Peacemakers: ten
session program for children to learn the skills for working
well with others and settling their differences using a conflict
management program.
$1000 for up to 20 participants (includes materials).

and full-day workshops offered to community groups, businesses,
and the general public on managing conflict, cultural diversity,
negotiating with difficult people; workshops on Peaceful Parenting
also offered. $30 to $60 per person; workshops require minimum
of 10 participants.
* Peer Mediation: Three days of training (15 hours) for
up to 25 students and four to five school staff; training can
take place on or off site. Technical assistance provided for
the staff coordinators; a two hour overview provided for the
entire school staff. $3,000.

"Talking with TJ" Series
is designed especially to support the work of national youth
organizations in working with children in the 2nd, 3rd, and
4th grades; six workshops, each with a short video, focus on
managing anger, respecting other people and communicating;
participation in two-hour orientation is recommended for teachers
and group leaders to become familiar with lesson plans and
materials; developed through collaborative effort of Boys & Girls
Clubs of America, 4-H, and Girls Scouts of the U.S.A.

of the Bucks County Correctional System by safeguarding and
supporting effective correctional and rehabilitative programs
