H1N1 Swine Flu Home -- Prevention - A Guide to Seasonal Flu

Director David C. Damsker, MD, MPH, encourages Bucks Countians to take the following prevention measures:

You can help yourself & others stay well - Cover your sneeze or cough! Wash your hands often! Stay home if you’re sick, until 24 hours after your fever breaks!

Everyday actions people can take to stay healthy

  • Cover your sneeze or cough with the bend of your elbow if you don’t have a tissue
  • Wash hands frequently, and keep hands out of your eyes, nose and mouth
  • If soap & water aren’t available, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer
  • Get plenty of rest

Try to avoid close contact with sick people

  • Use social distancing. Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.
  • If you get sick, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them. Stay home until 24 hours after your fever breaks
