Job Description For Adult Probation and Parole Officer
General Description:
Responsible for assigned cases that may include adult pre‑sentence investigations, preparole investigations and supervision of probationers and paroles in accordance with Court requirements and established professional standards.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct pre‑sentence and pre‑parole investigations obtaining pertinent information both social and economic from defendants, complainants, police officers, relatives and others who may have a bearing on the case.
- Prepare summaries and reports of investigations and attend and present the information at hearings before the Court.
- Supervise probationers and parolees to assist them in an effective rehabilitation.
- Meet with probationers and parolees in the office, in their homes and/or place of employment to observe and recommend special community services to their rehabilitation.
- Discuss plans and evaluations of cases with supervisor.
- Prepare reports concerning the assignment and maintain records.
- Report unusual conditions or questionable items to supervisor.
- Arrest and transport probationers and parolees who are in violation.
- Perform similar or related duties as required.

- Bachelor's degree in behavioral sciences.
- Valid driver's license; must have own car.
Candidates with a master's degree in the social sciences or two years' full‑time counseling experience in an approved social agency will be considered for appointment at the full performance probation officer level.
