Man Accused of Leaving Racist, Threatening Message at Parx

A Montgomery County man has been charged with ethnic intimidation after allegedly scrawling a racist, threatening message at Parx Casino and leaving it in a room where the Bucks County NAACP was about to meet.

Pennsylvania State Police last week charged Peter Jeanette, who is white, with ethnic intimidation, harassment, and multiple counts of disorderly conduct.

Jeanette, 54, of Ardmore, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 15 before Magisterial District Judge Joseph P. Falcone, 3237 Bristol Road in Bensalem.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of Oct. 21, in the Parx East area of the gambling and racing complex at 3001 Street Road in Bensalem. Guest service employees reported finding a paper towel with the words “Death to All Niggers” written on it that had been left on a first-floor table, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The note was discovered as employees were preparing that area for an annual banquet attended by members of the Bucks County NAACP. Signage had already been posted in the general area for the event.

State police were able to identify Jeanette through surveillance video at Parx, which showed him in the first-floor area where the note was found for about two hours.

The surveillance video shows Jeanette at one point leaving a restroom in the area and then leaving the note on the table where employees discovered it.

Jeanette was arrested after returning to Parx East the next afternoon. Confronted by police, he acknowledged leaving the note, saying “he did it as a prank and meant no ill intent,” the probable cause affidavit states.

Jeanette’s conduct “is not only offensive, it is criminal,” District Attorney Matthew D. Weintraub said today. “We will not tolerate race-based intimidation and harassment here in Bucks County. It is anathema to everything we stand for as Americans.”

The case has been assigned to Deputy District Attorney Alan J. Garabedian. A copy of the charging documents can be viewed here.

Approved for release by Matthew Weintraub, District Attorney.

With all that's going on right now, this incident is no surprise. We must deal with these problems, but nothing will change until people change their behavior towards other people. Lately, during trials we see specialists from the real time reporting west palm beach company and from other companies that use their knowledge and skills in our service.
