A home care worker who stole more than $87,000 from an elderly client was sent to state prison Tuesday for up to four years.

Jennifer Ramirez, 33, of Durham Road in Nockamixon Township, was sentenced by Judge Raymond F. McHugh to serve 18 to 48 months after pleading guilty to several felonies including identity theft and receiving stolen property.

Ramirez admitted stealing the victim’s credit cards and opening new accounts in his name while working as an aide in his Hilltown Township home. She used the cards and credit accounts to withdraw cash from the man’s bank accounts and engage in online shopping sprees, including 155 purchases on Amazon.com from April 2016 through July 2016.

The thefts occurred at the same time the victim, 72, was paying Ramirez and her company, Home Sweet Home Private Duty Services, to take care of him. The victim died about seven months after the thefts were discovered.

Ramirez also stole a safe containing two revolvers belonging to the victim. State police found the safe along Tower Road in Nockamixon Township, near a path less than 900 yards from Ramirez’s home. The victim’s guns, wallet and credit cards were found inside the safe.

In addition to the prison sentence, McHugh placed Ramirez on five years of consecutive probation and ordered her to pay $87,711.74 in restitution to the victim’s estate.

The case was investigated by the Hilltown Township Police Department, the Pennsylvania State Police and the Bucks County Detectives, and was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Marc J. Furber.

Approved for release by Matthew D. Weintraub, District Attorney.
