A Jamison man who killed another motorist last summer while driving under the influence of drugs and without a license was sent to state prison Wednesday for five to 12 years.

Mario B. Rivera, 30, of the 2100 block of Ashton Drive, pleaded guilty in February to multiple charges from the head-on crash that killed Gagonjot Sidhu, 23, of Warrington.

Bucks County Common Pleas Court Judge Rea B. Boylan sentenced Rivera to four to 10 years for homicide by vehicle while DUI, a concurrent one to seven years for homicide by vehicle, a consecutive one to two years for causing a fatal accident while driving without a license, and a concurrent 90 days to two year for DUI.

Boylan also fined Rivera $1,500 for DUI, and imposed lesser fines for driving with a suspended license and reckless driving.

On June 20, 2017, a Honda CRV driven by Rivera collided head-on with a 2016 Honda Accord driven by Sidhu at County Line and Kansas Roads in Warrington.

Sidhu, who suffered numerous fractures and a ruptured aorta, was taken to Abington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was a college finance major who had been on schedule to graduate this month.

After the crash, witnesses said Rivera was dozing off in the car and slurred his words when speaking. Blood tests showed that he had enough Xanax, morphine and Oxycodone in his system to significantly impair his ability to drive safely.

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation records showed that Rivera was driving with a license that had been suspended. The vehicle he was driving belonged to his girlfriend’s father. Rivera had two previous DUIs, one when he was a juvenile.

The case was investigated by the Warrington Township Police Department and the District Attorney’s Crash Investigation Team, and was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Robert D. James.
