Register of Wills/Clerk of the Orphans' Court

Meet Donald Petrille, Jr. 

Donald Petrille, Jr., Esquire is the elected Register of Wills and Clerk of the Orphans' Court. Mr. Petrille took office on January 3, 2012, bringing with him the experience of private practice law where he mainly represented small businesses as well as the planning and administering of estates. He continues to work to modernize and streamline procedures within the office. The office has worked on moving to electronic records and have placed many documents online since Mr. Petrille has taken office. He continues to welcome suggestions from the public as to how the office may better serve their needs.

Head-shot of Register of Wills, Don PetrilleThe Register of Wills is responsible for probating wills and accepting filings necessary to complete the administration of a decedent's estate. If an individual were to pass without a will, the Register, upon petition, will appoint an administrator of the estate. The Register also acts as an agent for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to collect inheritance tax.

The Register of Wills holds a qasi-judicial position and, if necessary, conducts hearings to determine who should be appointed as executor of administrator of an estate. Some Such issues include forgery, mental capacity and undue influence. The parties have a right to appeal the Register's decision to the Orphans' Court Division of the Court of Common Pleas.

As clerk of the Orphans' Court, Mr. Petrille serves the county of Bucks by administering marriage licenses, marriage certificates, and by accepting filings for adoptions, guardianships and incapacitated persons. Further, the office also assists with genealogical searches to help members of the community trace back their heritage within Bucks County.

The Honorable Donald Petrille also holds a number of esteemed positions throughout the Commonwealth through his capacity to serve on state associations as the Register  of Wills and Clerk of the Orphans' Court of Bucks County. He is currently the President and Legislative Analyst for the Register of Wills and Clerk of the Orphans' Court Association of Pennsylvania, a member of the Pennsylvania State Association of Elected County Officials, member of the Pennsylvania Extension (4H) Board, member of the Bucks County Genealogical Society, founder and facilitator of the Bucks County Orphans Court Advisory Committee, member of the Bucks County Estate Planning Council, and a member of the Association of Pennsylvania Courts Judicial Application Development Committee.
