POSITION SUMMARY:

Reports to IT Manager of Application Development.  The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible to maintain all Microsoft SQL and related databases, and associated interfaces.  This includes all internally developed applications along with purchased solutions and vendors.  On a daily basis the DBA will ensure that all databases are accessible by all applications, optimizing and troubleshooting with developers and vendors where necessary.  The DBA will also maintain Test and QA environments which mirror Production environments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administers, maintains, develops and implements policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the County information storage platforms.

  • Ensures the optimal operation of and access to enterprise databases, underlying purchased commercial enterprise applications and internally developed enterprise and departmental applications.

  • Develops normalized relational data structures, identifies primary and foreign keys and other constraints.

  • Develops and maintains standards for data manipulation and storage.

  • Create Tables, Views, Triggers, Stored Procedures along with queries in Microsoft SQL Server.

  • Resolves performance, replication, backup and other distributed data/database issues.

  • Proactively manages capacity and performance issues. 

  • Engages with Business Analysts, Vendors, Application Developers, Enterprise Specialists and other IT staff to optimize the support of County business activities.

  • Develop and maintains database related documentation to support applications, such as Entity Relationship Diagrams, Data Dictionaries, and Process documents in a common repository.

  • Installs and tests third party applications and upgrades in QA and Production environments.

  • Expands technical skills and abilities to better serve the needs of the County.  Assists Vendors with activities.

  • Must be able to resolve technical issues quickly and efficiently as they arise.

  • Will be expected to share in the support of the information needs of the County on a 24/7 basis.

  • Maintain working knowledge for day-to-day usage of all county-relevant Microsoft SQL Server and development tools.

  • Creates business unit and cross functional reports for users including data sheets, visualizations and dashboards.

  • Able to work independently and as a part of a team. 

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Experience in Business Intelligence Development and/or Data Science.

  • Background in data warehousing and mining.

  • Experience in ad-hoc reporting using Power BI

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field.

  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant IT experience, primarily using Microsoft SQL Server database.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in SQL Server database administration, data modeling, T-SQL, and XML

  • Knowledge of scripting in multiple toolsets and/or languages. 

  • Knowledge of Internet Information Services, web servers, application servers, and n-tier architecture.
