POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for planning, organization, direction and supervision.  Provides an ongoing program of meaningful activities designed to meet the interest and physical, mental and psychosocial wellbeing of all residents in accordance with the interdisciplinary assessment.  Program is in compliance with all federal, state and local regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, develops and evaluates of a coordinated schedule of specialized or generalized activity programs that are designed to meet the needs, capabilities and interest of all residents.
  • Provides overall direction for the Recreation/Activities Programs through supervisory sessions with Assistant Director and other staff responsible for conducting the programs.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates standards of documentation to comply with federal, state and local regulations and to ensure all residents are receiving meaningful activities designed to meet their interest and physical, mental and psychosocial needs in accordance with the interdisciplinary assessment.Responsible to review quality of notes of all other program personnel at least annually.
  • Develops policies and procedures for the administration of the program.
  • Establishes and monitors departmental budget that includes ordering supplies and services, maintenance of equipment and the control of labor hours.
  • Maintains department computer compliance with ECS.
  • Coordinates with the residents any plans for approved activities that come from outside organizations.
  • Coordinates, trains, schedules & maintains compliance for community volunteers.
  • Attends all meetings that pertain to management functions at the Manor.
  • Oversees or designates interdisciplinary care meetings.
  • Maintains open communication, especially with Social Works, Occupational, Physical, Speech Therapies, Dietary and Nursing with regard to appropriate participation of resident and staff in the various programming.
  • Plans, develops and implements short and long-term goals for the program.
  • Maintains/oversees Activity Assistant’s schedules, training. In-servicing & payroll.
  • Oversees Resident Counsel meetings/concerns/follow-ups/banking.
  • Oversee the scheduling and maintenance/inspections of the vans used to transport the residents, holds a valid driver’s license.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • If applicable, licensed or registered by the state.
  • Possesses certification or is eligible for certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist through N.C.T.R.C.; or has two (2) years’ experience in a social or recreational program within the last five (5) years, one of which was full-time in a patient activities program in a healthcare setting; or is a qualified Occupational Therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant; or has completed a training course approved by the state such as an Activity Director certified by the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals.
  • A four-year college degree in Recreation (i.e., Therapeutic Recreation, Music Therapy, Art Therapy, etc.).
  • Minimum 6-12 months volunteer or work experience with a geriatric population.
  • Drive a 15 passenger wheelchair van.
