POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs a variety of clerical and/or secretarial duties including, but not limited to, transcribing dictation from Dictaphone tapes as well as performing related office duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Transcribes dictation of a legal nature accurately and efficiently.
  • Prepares all types of legal documents and assists in preparing cases for Court and hearings.
  • Maintains complete and accurate records and files.
  • Receives telephone calls, answers questions and screens visitors.
  • Plans, organizes and carries out the workload that is assigned.
  • Types legal correspondence, orders of Court, legal documents and other related typing duties as required.
  • Organizes and schedules appointments and/or hearing dates and makes certain they are kept or rescheduled.
  • Assists in the compilation of information, reports and programs.
  • Must be extremely discreet and work independently.
  • May be required to perform additional work that follows prescribed or well-established procedures that can be learned within a reasonable time by training on the job.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • High school education with several years secretarial experience.
  • Keyboarding skill of 45 wpm.
  • Dictaphone experience.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and talk and hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
