POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs a variety of job tasks related to supporting victims of crime by providing opportunities for them to be included in the criminal justice process and advocating for the enforcement of their rights.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Records confidential client information and services provided
  • Ensures that all victims receive mandated notifications, forms and information
  • Provides victims/witnesses with orientation to the criminal justice process
  • Advocates for the enforcement of victims’ rights
  • Assists with victim/witness travel, reimbursement and interpretation needs
  • Works under the direction of a Deputy D.A. designated by the District Attorney
  • Supervises Victim/Witness Unit staff and establishes work plans
  • Manages RASA (Rights and Services Act) grant to ensure continuation of program funding
  • Collaborates with other system-based and community-based agencies to enhance victim services
  • Must meet all required clearances for employment (i.e. Act 34 - Criminal history, Act 33 – Child Abuse)
  • Must be willing to attend and successfully complete all trainings required by the PA Commission on Crime and Delinquency within the first year of hire (may involve travel and evening classes)
  • Must complete a minimum of ten (10) hours of mandatory, approved training per year (may involve travel)

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. High school graduate or equivalent.

EDUCATION, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree in criminology, human services or other related field and/or minimum of three (3) years of related work experience
  • Basic knowledge of the criminal justice system and rights of crime victims in PA
  • Typing skills: minimum 35 wpm
  • Ability to operate general office equipment (i.e. computer, telephone, photocopy/fax machine, calculator)
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing)
  • Ability to deal effectively with people in stressful situations
  • Good organizational skills & ability to work independently on multiple tasks
  • Ability to handle confidential information

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands or arms, talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
