Bucks County Planning Commission
History
The BCPC was formed in 1951, in response to major changes brought about
by the development of Levittown and U.S. Steel's Fairless Works. The planning
commission has continued to work with municipal, county, regional, state,
and federal agencies, as well as civic and professional groups, in planning
for the future of the county.
In 1961, Bucks County was the first county in the Commonwealth to enact a comprehensive
plan. The county comprehensive plan was revised in 1977 and again in 1993. Other
county policy documents prepared and enacted as county policy by the county commissioners
include plans for housing, natural resources, solid waste management, parks and
recreation, stormwater management, and land use.
