Work Release, Community Service and House Arrest

Work Release

The Work Release Program enables the offender to pay restitution, courts costs and fines, child support payments and other debts. All employed offenders are required to pay a specified percentage of each pay for room and board. The offender is also allocated sufficient funds for travel expenses during the week.

Offenders who have been ordered by the Court to work release are classified as minimum custody. The Work Release Program is a key component in reintegrating the offender back into the community.

Community Service

Offenders from the Community Corrections Centers perform community service to assist county agencies and non-profit organizations. All offenders incarcerated at the Community Corrections Centers are eligible for community service work.

During 2012, there were 192,175 hours of in house community service performed by both male and female offenders. In addition, there were 32,873 hours of off campus community service completed at 30 sites. An average of 195 offenders performed community service each month.

House Arrest

The House Arrest Program is located within the Men's Community Corrections Center, and operates on a 24-hour basis. House Arrest involves a philosophy of strictly limiting an offender's movement within the community through passive and active electronic monitoring.

The passive system is based on voice verification. This involves computer generated telephone calls to the offender's residence at random times. You must have a residential telephone service for house arrest (Vonage or any other similar services are not permitted). All residential telephone services must be approved by the Department of Corrections, prior to any placement on the house arrest program.

The active method of electronic monitoring entails a transmitter being placed in the residence in addition to a bracelet attached to the offender's ankle. This method tracks the movement of the offender.

Serious violations of house arrest will result in the offender's removal to maximum custody at the Bucks County Correctional Facility.
