The Bucks County Department of Corrections

Employment Opportunities

One of the most challenging issues facing the department today is the recruitment and hiring of quality staff, particularly for the entry-level corrections officer position. If you or someone you know is interested in a career in Corrections, studying criminal justice, or recently has been honorably discharged from military service and seeking a new career, please contact the Department of Corrections at 215-340-8486 for further information concerning employment opportunities.

Corrections Officer

Corrections officers maintain security and discipline in a county correctional or work release facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  They supervise inmates at work locations within the facility, in housing units, and transport prisoners.  Work as a corrections officer involves regular exposure to unpredictable conditions and occasionally requires physical effort in restraining and subduing prisoners. A complete corrections officer job description can be accessed by clicking here.

What are the basic qualifications?

  1. High school diploma or the equivalent (GED)
  2. At least 18 years old
  3. Valid driver’s license

What does it pay?

Corrections officer salaries range from $37,231.66 to $51,132.60 a year (depending on length of service) and include paid holidays, vacation, sick and personal days.  Annual rates are higher for ranks such as sergeant, lieutenant and captain.

Are there other career opportunities within the correctional setting?

The corrections setting has many other career opportunities available.  Food service officers, corrections case managers, community corrections officers, drug and alcohol case workers, mental health professionals and health care providers are just a few.

How do I apply for a Corrections Officer position?

In order to apply for a Corrections Officer position there must be a requisition posted on the www.buckscounty.org website.  Once on the website under the Quick Links heading click on jobs.  On the next screen under the Human Resources heading click on job requisitions.  The job requisitions list shows all current job postings for the county.  Please note that this list is updated weekly and you may only apply for positions that are posted.  If you do not see a requisition for a Corrections Officer then you can’t apply for that position.
