Corrections Officer

Corrections officers maintain security and discipline in a county correctional or work release facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  They supervise inmates at work locations within the facility, in housing units, and transport prisoners.  Work as a corrections officer involves regular exposure to unpredictable conditions and occasionally requires physical effort in restraining and subduing prisoners. What are the basic qualifications?

1. High school diploma or the equivalent (GED)
2. At least 18 years old
3. Valid driver’s license
4. No criminal history

What does it pay?

Corrections officer salaries range from at $32,761.78 to 43,054.29 a year and include paid holidays, vacation, sick and personal days.  Annual rates are higher for ranks such as sergeant, lieutenant and captain.
