COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS OFFICER

SUMMARY: Responsible for the placement and management of offenders on work release and house arrest while in the community.  They are the link between the employers, community and the Department of Corrections.  Work involves regular exposure to unpredictable conditions and occasionally requires the expenditure of physical effort in the restraining and subduing of prisoners.  All community corrections officers are sworn intermediate punishment officers for the Court of Common Pleas of Bucks County.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Orients and educates new commitments entering the program.
  • Place and supervise offenders on work release, community service and house arrest.
  • Corresponds with Courts, Probation/Parole agencies, local police departments and other outside agencies as appropriate.
  • Provides testimony to the Court for violation hearings and other hearings as required by the Court.
  • Creates and modifies work release agreements.
  • Conducts job development activities.
  • Maintains records and generates reports on offenders.  Develops and facilitates case planning and re-entry planning activities with all offenders upon admission to the Community Corrections Centers through their release from custody.
  • Respond/investigate/resolve job related and/or community complaints.
  • Responsible for the supervision of all offenders participating in the Day Reporting Program.  Corresponds with the Courts and attorneys for offender placement in the program.  
  • When necessary, restrains and returns offenders to custody. 
  • Coordinates with other community corrections and community treatment components.
  • May be required to perform additional work that follows prescribed or well-established procedures that can be learned within a reasonable time by training on the job.  More detailed instructions as to the nature of their duties will be given to employees at the beginning of work.

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Minimum of one-year experience in criminal justice preferred.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of minimum custody and community corrections.
  • Knowledge of personal computer helpful.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee is occasionally required to sit.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
