The Department ensures safe and adequate drinking water supply for public consumption. The Department regularly conducts full or partial inspections at Community, Transient Non-community (TNC), and Non-transient
Non-community (NTNC) public water systems in Bucks County.

Transient Non-community (TNC) public water systems include some restaurants, motels, schools, commercial establishments, bathing places, and camps. Non-transient Non-community (NTNC) systems are either facilities that serve at least 25 of the same people for at least six-months.

Inspections ensure that water works facilities are properly operated and maintained for public health protection and that there are at least two certified operators. Noncompliance with proper operation and maintenance procedures may lead to violation notices, fines, and a public health order to shut down operation.

The Department technically reviews permit applications, including major and minor permit amendments, for Community Water Supplies in accordance with the PA DEP policies and procedures. Reviews conform Public Water Supply Manual and sound environmental health engineering practices.
