Women, Infants And Children (WIC) Nutrition Education Program
WIC provides education and supplemental foods, which promote good health for pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants and children up to age five. WIC services are free however you must financially qualify and be a resident of Pennsylvania. More information on WIC

Children's Immunization Clinics
Free vaccines are provided by the Bucks County Health Department, to protect children from various diseases. Eligible children live in Bucks County and are one month through eighteen years of age. There are no income requirements.

Lead Poisoning Prevention
Learn more about lead poisoning, what it is and how your child can get it. Nurses and health educators are available to speak to a group about this topic.

Body Mass Index (BMI) Screenings/Blood Pressure Screenings
Body Mass Index and Blood Pressure screenings are offered at our Health Fairs for schools, communities and work sites. Health Educators and Health Department Nurses are available to cover these events.

Sun Safety for Children ages 3-5
A health educator will come out to your day care, preschool or camp and provide an educational activity teaching children ages 3-5 the importance of using sunscreen when being out in the sun. This program is offered May-August.

Cardiovascular Education
The following educational programs are available for children and adults. A health educator will come out to your facility. Topics included are:

  • 2nd Hand Smoking and Health Risks
  • Physical Activity and Why We All Need to Exercise
  • Nutrition and the Importance of a Proper Diet
  • Diabetes Education

The Importance of Hand washing
A health educator will come out to your school, day care, or camp and talk to children about the importance of hand washing to prevent the spread of germs. This interactive activity provides knowledge for the children as well as the chance to use the germ machine to see how well they wash their hands.

Injury Prevention: Bike safety
Bike rodeos and educational programs are held throughout the County during Spring and Summer. The BCDH Health Education staff will offer FREE bike safety education for any organization within Bucks County. Bike helmets are distributed to low-income communities when available.

Home Safety Check
A member of the BCDH Health Education staff will evaluate your home to check for safety hazards for children under age 5. Each participant receives FREE home safety supplies and literature as well as personalized report with suggestions for their home.

Fire prevention
The BCDH Health Education staff has partnered with local Volunteer Fire Departments to distribute FREE smoke detectors door-to-door in at risk communities. The Health Educators also attend many Fire Department Open House events to distribute smoke detectors during fire prevention week.

Child passenger safety
Certified car seat technicians are available to educate and assist parents with proper use of their car seats. Car seat check-up events are held at three locations each month throughout the County. A Car Seat Distribution program is also provided for families that qualify financially.

Playground Safety
The BCDH Health Education staff, in conjunction with the Bucks County SAFE KIDS Coalition, offers "The ABC's of Playground Supervision" training for all child care centers and school districts throughout Bucks County. The Partnership between BCDH and SAFE KIDS has produced a workshop, offered annually, for local municipality and school maintenance personnel to help improve the safety of our community playgrounds.
