Family Fishing Program

Looking for a great way to connect with your family? Discover just how fun fishing can be when you do it together at a Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission Family Fishing Program. Learn basic fishing skills like knot tying, casting, baiting the hook and taking a fish off the hook. You and your family will have the opportunity to fish - no fishing license required. All equipment provided.

The "catch???" Adults MUST bring a child and children must bring an adult. You'll be learning and fishing together. Participants can register with PFBC Instructor Andrew Desko at 215-968-3631 or adesko@state.pa.us. NO NOT USE THE PATHWAYS REGISTRATION FORM. Participants can find out about more family fishing programs in their region at www.fish.state.pa.us.

Fishing Skills Instructor Certificate

Help spread the enjoyment of fishing. Certified instructors can then teach SMART (Safety first, Manners are important, Appreciate clean water, Release your catch and Teach others) angler classes and Family Fishing Programs. Fishing or teaching experience is helpful. The only prerequisite is the desire to donate time and teach SMART angler classes.

Participants receive training on basic aquatic ecology, fishing skills, teaching techniques and equipment access. The workshop is particularly useful to rangers, park educators, sporting club leaders, camp counselors and outdoor education teachers. Full Moon Kayak Tours

For experienced paddlers only. Join our nature center Naturalist, Mary, and one of our boating staff for a moonlit tour on Lake Luxembourg. Learn about the history of this area along the flora and fauna that make it unique. Be prepared to get wet if using sit on top kayaks. Wear secure water shoes. Bring snacks, if desired. Beginner Flat-Water Kayaking

Want to buy a kayak but not sure which one is appropiate? Looking for some kayaking tips? Learn the answers and much more in this 2-hour class designed for the beginner who just bought a kayak or someone simply interested in the sport. With our user-friendly open-top single and double kayaks, we'll teach you to become comfortable on the water. Instruction includes: kayak types, basic paddling strokes, basic rescues, entry and exit, paddling environments and handling kayaks. Be ready to get wet sitting down and wear secure footwear. Women's Only Flat-Water Kayaking Classes

Join us for a fun and educational time learning one of the fastest growing sports, non-intimidating and non-competitive in a relaxed atmosphere, taught by our own staff. The curriculum will follow that of the beginner flat-water kayaking class. We'll teach you to become comfortable on the water. Instruction includes: kayak types, basic paddling strokes, basic rescues, entry and exit, paddling environments and handling kayaks. Be ready to get wet using our sit on top kayaks. Learn to Row Program

This beginner program, sponsored by the Bucks County Rowing Association, is intended to orient participants to the sport of sculling (or rowing), in addition to boat handling and safety.

All equipment is included. Students are asked to wear appropiate clothing and bring a change of clothes, just in case! Sessions will be conducted in a 4-man boat known as a quad. Register on page 27 of the Pathways Newsletter.

Peace Valley Park Boat Rental

Moonlight Canoe/Kayak Tours

These tours are for intermediate and experienced kayakers and canoeists. This is not a learn to kayak or canoe program! The cost will be $15 per person for those without a kayak, canoe or life vest and covers the rental of these items and staff time. Those with a kayak or canoe, the cost is $10 per person and covers staff time and life vest.

Each program will be different and conducted by the Peace Valley Nature Center staff or volunteers of th Bucks County Astrological Society. For futher information you may call 215-348-6625. The deadline to register is one week prior to the date of the program. Attendance is limited those of 20 years of age or older. The maximum number of reservations is 16 people/the minimum to hold the program is 8 people. No substitutions permitted. The staff is American Red Cross Small Craft Safety and CPR/First Aid trained. American Red Cross Small Craft Safety Course

Students participating in this program will learn safety and emergency training in crafts such as canoes and kayaks. This program is for ages 14 years and older. Class size is limited to 10 students. All participants will be asked to show swimming proficiency at Tohickon Valley Pool. Bring a change of clothing, secure footwear for the water and lunch. This is a great program for recreation and camp counselors. You must attend most both days for certification. Register on page 27 of the Pathways Newsletter.

Introduction to Sailing for Adults

Over three evenings, the basic skills of sailing will be taught to safely operate a sailboat on Lake Galena. This course will be taught by Dave Caroll, a former Scout Master with over 50 years of lake, coastal and ocean sailing experience. One boat rental staff person will assist with the class. Beginner/Intermediate Flat-Water Kayaking

Instructing the Beginner and Intermediate classes will be Bill Amey of Nature's Way Canoe and Kayak in Quakertown. Co-sponsored by the Central Bucks School District and Warminster Township Parks and Recreation. Be ready to get wet and bring secure water shoes. America's Boating Course

This program is co-sponsored by the Pennsway Power Squadron, a unit of the United States Power Squadrons. Students participating in this program will learn water safety and boating laws. This will also learn boating techniques, survival skills and rescue procedures. Upon completion of this course, a test wil be given to each student. If they pass, they will receive a certificate - showing that they have taken an eight hour boating education course and passed a proctored examination. The course will run two Saturday mornings and participants must register no later than June 14.You must attend both days for certification. Register on page 27 of the Pathways Newsletter.
