About Weisel

A picture of the Weisel Hostel located in Quakertown, PAWeisel Hostel, operated by the Bucks County Department of Parks and Recreation, is a 100-year-old country estate situated within the tranquil setting of Nockamixon State Park, Quakertown, PA. Year-round activities start right at the front door, and include hiking, biking, boating, fishing, and swimming.

Reservations are essential at this very popular hostel, which has 20 beds, including one family room. The large, comfortable community room has a stone fireplace and a peaceful, home-like environment. The eight acres of hostel grounds are home to a variety of woodland flowers, birds, and other creatures, as well as a babbling brook, a serene pond, and nature trails that lead directly into Nockamixon State Park.

Weisel Hostel is also located in historic Bucks County. Founded by William Penn in the 18th century, the county still has many original churches, buildings, farms, and covered bridges. Author James A. Michener was from nearby Doylestown, where the Michener Art Museum is located. Doylestown is also the hometown of 19th century tilemaker and Renaissance man Henry Chapman Mercer. Three of his masterpieces are also located there: the Moravian Pottery and Tileworks; Mercer's amazing castle home, Fonthill; and Mercer Museum, which highlights "the tools of the nation maker." There are also many other historic and tourist sites in this center of county government.

Also nearby is the artist colony at New Hope, along the Delaware River. For those who love bargains, there is the Quakertown Farmer's Market, which is open on weekends, and Rice's Sale and Country Market, which has been open every Tuesday for the past 100 years. In short, there are activities nearby and year round to suit just about everyone!
