Senior Employment Service

Through a unique program that is of benefit to both businesses and seniors, the Bucks County Area Agency on Aging sponsors a Senior Employment Service (SES) with the goal of helping persons age 55+ obtain both part-time and full-time employment. Job applicants must register with the SES, either by phone or in person, and there is no fee to either the employee or employer.

Persons age 55 and over with limited income may also be eligible for the Title V program, which places persons in part-time positions in non-profit agencies with the goal of providing training and more permanent employment. Applicants must meet income guidelines to qualify.

The Facts:
Surveys have verified long known facts regarding employment of the mature worker:

• Very Productive: Mature workers have positive work attitudes developed from years of knowing that job satisfaction and pay depend upon performance.
• Dependable: Seniors do not lose as many work days, even for illness, as younger employees. They also report higher levels of job satisfaction.
• Competent: Numerous studies have demonstrated that mental skills and speed actually increase over time, enhancing the ability to adapt to new methods.
• Flexible: With many outside responsibilities completed, mature workers readily accommodate to employer needs.

According to the Hudson Institute's Workforce 2000 report, millions of new workers lack the basic skills essential for employment. Mature workers, who have demonstrated these skills over years of successful employment, are a resource many employers may have overlooked.
