Sheriff's Office Honors Past, Deputies form Honor Guard
The Bucks County Sheriff's Office has established an Honor Guard in
memory of a former sheriff and two former deputies who died in the line
of duty. The mission of the Bucks County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard
is to preserve tradition, stimulate esprit-de-corps and instill pride
throughout the community at a variety of ceremonies -- both solemn and
festive.
This elite unit, formed on March 8, 2004 under the authority of Sheriff
Edward J. Donnelly, is available upon written request to appear at ceremonies
and events.
The eight-member team includes the following deputy sheriffs: Lester Bobbs, John Santos,
Joseph Gizzi, Daniel
Boyle Jr., John Milorey, James Mitchell, Thomas French and Steven Springfield. The Honor Guard made their first public appearance on Sept. 11 at the
Deputy Sheriffs' Association of Pennsylvania Annual Conference and Awards
Dinner, where they honored the fallen deputies from Bradford, PA and
others who sacrificed their lives on Sept.11, 2001.
The Bucks County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard is an all-volunteer staff
of deputies who have continued to train on a regimented, ceremonial drill
program in order to establish uniformity in conduct and protocol. The
elite unit trains and performs on their own time. The cost of equipment,
uniforms and training facilities has been donated by outside contributors.
The Honor Guard will be appearing at various events throughout the county and
surrounding states.
PA Governor Ed Rendell selected to march with the honor guard as his escort
in the Bristol Borough Hometown Parade on Saturday, November 27, 2004.
