Man Pleads Guilty to Involuntary Manslaughter in Fatal Stabbing

June 8, 2016

A Philadelphia man who claimed self-defense in the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend’s ex-husband last summer pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter this morning in Bucks County Common Pleas Court.

Tyrone Lester, 29, also pleaded guilty to possession of an instrument of crime in the stabbing death of Miguel Feliciano, 23, in Bensalem on June 14, 2015.

Bucks County Judge Raymond F. McHugh accepted the Commonwealth’s recommendation that Lester be sentenced to the time he has already served to 23 months in prison on the involuntary manslaughter charge, plus two years of consecutive probation. Lester had been incarcerated since the day of the stabbing, and was to be paroled immediately.

McHugh also sentenced Lester to a concurrent four years of probation for possessing an instrument of crime, and ordered him to pay restitution of $6,500 to the Victims Compensation Assistance Program for the costs of Feliciano’s funeral. The judge said he considered the negotiated plea and sentence “an appropriate resolution of this matter.”

The stabbing occurred in a parking lot of the Salem Crossing apartment complex in the 3500 block of Street Road in Bensalem. Lester had accompanied his girlfriend, Brianna Feliciano, to the parking lot to pick up her young son from her ex-husband as part of a scheduled weekend custody exchange.

A quarrel ensued between Brianna Feliciano and Cazika Hunter, the victim’s girlfriend, which escalated into a physical fight. As Lester got out of his Jeep to intervene, a knife in his hand, Miguel Feliciano ran out of the apartment to confront him.

The men began to fight, and fell to the pavement. Witnesses saw the victim on top of the much smaller Lester, throwing punches. Lester stabbed Miguel Feliciano several times before fleeing in his vehicle with Brianna Feliciano. The couple then flagged down a Bensalem police cruiser about a half-mile away on Street Road.

Miguel Feliciano was taken by ambulance to Aria Health’s Torresdale hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy determined that he had died of multiple stab wounds, including one that severed the carotid artery in his neck.

Despite his claim of self-defense, “Mr. Lester’s reckless or grossly negligent use of the knife resulted in Mr. Feliciano’s death,” Deputy District Attorney Thomas Gannon said in court.

Lester, a Navy veteran with a two-year college degree, had no prior criminal record. His attorney, Louis Busico, called the slaying “a horrific tragedy,” for which Lester has expressed “heartfelt remorse and regret.”

Killing Feliciano “was never my intention that day,” Lester told McHugh before being sentenced. “My intention was to do a custody exchange. I am deeply sorry for what happened.”

Approved for release by Daniel B. Sweeney, Deputy District Attorney.

I hope the court will give him the right punishment. People like him should be put in jail for a life time. Why did he go for some girl who had a husband? There are a plenty of single girls out there.
