A Montgomery County man was charged this morning with criminal homicide and possession of an instrument of crime in the Sunday night shooting death of his girlfriend in Tullytown.

Anthony J. Depolo, 33, of East Greenville, was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Robert L. Wagner Jr., who ordered him held without bail. Depolo’s preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for 9:15 a.m. Oct. 10 before Wagner.

The victim, Helen Lynn Farr, 45, was found lying on the ground with no pulse in the 300 block of Main Street when police arrived at 8:43 p.m. Sunday, a probable cause affidavit states. Farr, who had no fixed address but had been staying in Tullytown, was pronounced dead at 1:15 a.m. today.

Depolo, who had a .380 caliber Ruger semi-automatic handgun in a holster inside his pants, told police at the scene that Farr had taken his gun from the holster and shot herself, the affidavit states.

Depolo was taken to the Tullytown Police Department, where he was interviewed by Bucks County Detectives Martin McDonough and Lt. David Kemmerer. He initially denied arguing with or harming Farr, saying he had returned his gun to its holster after she shot herself, the affidavit states.

After taking a break in the interview, Depolo admitted that he had pulled out his gun and shot the victim as she came toward him during an argument. According to the affidavit, he said he fired one shot that struck Farr in the neck / chest area before putting the gun back in the holster.

The case has been assigned for prosecution to Deputy District Attorney Kristin M. McElroy. It is being investigated by the Tullytown Borough Police Department and the Bucks County Detectives.

Approved for release by Gregg D. Shore, First Assistant District Attorney.
