COMMISSIONERS APPROVE BUCKS WEBSITE REDESIGN INITIATIVE
New Site to be More Easily Navigated, With More Online Services

Significant navigation, design and service-oriented changes will be seen in the coming months on the Bucks County website, as the Office of Public Information begins its work to launch an enhanced site. Today, the commissioners approved a contract with Perfexion, ( www.pfxn.com ) a Wayne-based design company that will collaborate with Public Information in improving design architecture and functionality on the site. The project involves three major components - redesign overhaul, content management and hosting/maintenance, and was initially studied in December 2004.

Enhancements are meant to better serve all users of the site. Director Stacey Martin notes, "Our goal is to provide a more intuitive site for the public that reflects proudly on our county government, a site where users can more easily access information and learn about our county. We want visitors to get a sense of the heritage and achievements of Bucks County government when they visit the site." Once the architecture of the site is completed, it will provide a framework in which the county can begin looking at ways to offer more e-services to users. "Eventually, we would like visitors to the site to be able to conduct transactions such as purchasing a Mercer tile, applying for a job with Human Resources, or reserving a campground with Parks and Recreation," Martin added.

As part of the process, web trend reports will be used to determine which pages and departments are most frequently visited, in order to most effectively serve users of the site.

The launch of the enhanced website is an extension of the county's commitment to providing ready information to both employees and the public. In addition, the county's Intranet site will receive similar enhancements to allow for an improved exchange of information with employees. The Information Services division is providing expertise as the county proceeds. Watch for the launch of the county's new website sometime this summer.
