BUCKS COMMISSIONERS APPOINT OPEN SPACE COORDINATOR

The Bucks County Commissioners today appointed a county planner as the new Open Space Coordinator.

Kristine Kern, a county employee since 2002, has been involved with municipal planning and zoning issues most recently in Nockamixon and Hilltown townships. Kern was appointed to the vacant position, effective July 9.

Bucks County Commissioner Chairman Charles H. Martin said, "We are very pleased to welcome Ms. Kern to this position. The county needs someone with her background and ability to lead the open space program. We're confident she will help us continue our work in preserving open space in the coming months and years."

"Kris works very well with the communities," added Lynn Bush, executive director of the county planning commission. "She has been a valuable part of the planning commission for the past three years. Her education, experience and love of Bucks County makes her well-qualified to oversee the successful open space program the commissioners began in 1997."

Kern, a Perkasie resident, is a graduate of Kutztown University and holds a master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania in city/regional planning. She currently is studying historic preservation at Bucks County Community College. As Open Space Coordinator, Kern will oversee the natural areas and municipal grant programs.

The commissioners held today's bimonthly meeting in the Bucks County Courthouse Community Room.
