Commissioner Cawley 'On The Road' with Adult Probation
To learn more about the wide range of services offered by Bucks
County government and the people who provide them, Commissioner
Jim Cawley is arranging "hands-on" visits
to several county departments. Today, he traveled with a probation officer
from the Adult Probation & Parole Department on the officer's scheduled
visits to parolees' homes.
"While my role is that of observer, I believe it provides me with an exceptional
insight into the inner workings of county government," Commissioner Cawley said.
"This may be a small glimpse into an important court-related department, but
it speaks volumes about all our employees," he added.
Adult Probation & Parole oversees adults sentenced by the Bucks County
Court of Common Pleas. The probationers or parolees remain under court jurisdiction
while serving their terms. Currently, there are about 6,000 "clients," as they
are called, while Adult Probation has a staff of 37 probation/parole officers
and five supervisors.
Considered a field supervisory agency, department officers contact clients
where they live or work.
In the coming months, the commissioner plans to observe the operations of several
other county departments.
