Commissioners Authorize Funding Increase For
Senior Centers
During their bi-monthly meeting held today at the Bucks County Courthouse,
the Commissioners signed off on over $500,000 in operational grants
for 12 of 13 Bucks County senior citizen centers. The funding is
a two percent increase over the 2004 allocation.
Included in the funding is a $6500 disaster preparedness grant to
the Benjamin H. Wilson Senior Center in Warminster. Participating
senior volunteers will be trained to help responders in case of an
emergency.
In 2004, seniors from the Middletown Senior Citizens Center received
the disaster preparedness grant and training. Their experience was
put into use as they were called to assist with the flooding emergency
along the Delaware River in September 2004.
The Senior Centers in Bucks County serve approximately 10,000 people
a year. The centers are especially critical during the hot summer
months serving as an air-conditioned refuge during the excessive
heat emergencies.
