Bucks Represented at Commissioners Annual Conference
Posthumous Award to Former Chief Clerk

The County Commissioners Association of PA (CCAP) posthumously presented its Outstanding Chief Clerk award to David G. Steinbach at the close of its 2005 Annual Conference in Hershey, today.

The former county chief clerk was nominated by Bucks County Commissioners Charles H. Martin, chairman; James F. Cawley and Sandra A. Miller, who each attended portions of the three-day conference that opened Monday, Aug. 8.

For nearly 30 years, Steinbach was employed in public service, most of it with the County of Bucks where he served as assistant chief clerk and chief clerk.

During his tenure, he earned a reputation as a knowledgeable and committed public servant, a strong cog in county government, and an asset to the county commissioners, with whom he forged a close working alliance.

With family members looking on, including his son, David, the award was presented posthumously at the conference closing luncheon, today.

"We are honored that David Steinbach was chosen by CCAP for this award. We believe he is deserving of this recognition for his many years of government service and dedication to the county.

"Since the untimely death earlier this year of our chief clerk and his wife, Charlotte, we have missed David as a colleague and both of them as friends," said Commissioner Chairman Charles H. Martin.

The annual conference opened Monday with a series of work sessions and seminars. Bucks County's Chief Operating Officer, David Sanko, moderated a panel discussion on Monday -- "Planning for Continuity of Government."

The panel delved into the importance of operations and planning in advance of a disaster, either natural or man-made.

Prior to joining Bucks County government in January, Sanko was director of the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency.
