County Mental Health Department Offers Support To Hurricane Victims Staying In Bucks County

The Bucks County Department of Mental Health/Mental Retardation will provide support services to individuals and families who fled Hurricane Katrina and are now residing in the county.

This is in addition to counseling being made available to school-age children from the Gulf Coast currently attending Bucks County schools, said Carol Bamford, MH/MR director of case management and crisis services for the department.

"Living through a disaster is emotionally traumatic and people can experience a wide variety of systems, which are normal reactions to an abnormal situation. If anyone is looking for support from our agency - if they feel they are having difficulty coping with their recent experience, we are ready to help and welcome their calls.

"While we can provide support to individuals and families, we also can coordinate any other assistance necessary," Bamford said.
