Manfred Marschewski Appointed To Chair Bucks
Agricultural Board
Bucks County Commissioner Chairman Charles
H. Martin, after consulting with Commissioner James F. Cawley and
Commissioner Sandra A. Miller, today named Manfred Marschewski of
Durham Township Chairman of the Bucks County Agricultural Preservation
Board.
Marschewski has served on the board since its inception in 1989 and also serves
as a Durham Township supervisor.
This action follows receipt of a letter from former Chairman Penrose
Hallowell which stated, "There comes a time in everyone's career where
it is time to reassess priorities and provide opportunities for future
leaders. As such, it is my intention to relinquish the chairmanship of
the Agriculture Preservation Board so that Bucks County may transition
into a new generation of leadership."
"We are appreciative of Hallowell's years of service to the state, county, and
the farm community, in particular," said Commission Chairman Charles H. Martin. "Bucks
County developed a wonderful farmland preservation program under his leadership
preserving 93 farms totaling almost 9,000 acres. We commend him for his advocacy
on behalf of farmers."
Bucks County Chief Operating Officer David Sanko said this opportunity for
new leadership on the Agriculture Preservation Board comes at a time when the
Commissioners are about to reconstitute the Open Space Advisory Board.
"As we are winding down the original open space bond proceeds, these two boards,
together, will craft a second generation plan for open space preservation in
Bucks County," Sanko said.
Hallowell, a Tinicum Township resident, lifelong Bucks County farmer and
former Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture has served as chairman of
the agricultural preservation board since 1989. He will continue to serve
on the board.
