Upgrade To Bucks County Weapons Permit System
Sheriff Edward "Duke" Donnelly Institutes Electronic Card Permit With Digital Image

Bucks County Sheriff Duke Donnelly (far right), with Sgt. Jack Kirkpatrick, addresses the press to announce the launch of an improved weapons permit program.

Bucks County Sheriff Edward "Duke" Donnelly has launched a new system for issuing concealed weapons permits. The system officially goes into effect November 1, 2005 at the Sheriffs offices in Doylestown, Quakertown and Levittown.

Applications will be processed through an electronic system that will issue a plastic permit, complete with their digital photograph and signature. The new cards are more durable than the current paper permit.

Sheriff Edward "Duke" Donnelly considers the weapons permit system upgrade a priority of his administration. "The new licensing system offers our law-abiding citizens a better product. It is a technologically secure license, with a digital image for improved photo identification by law enforcement."

The permit, valid for five years, allows a Bucks County resident to carry a concealed firearm within Pennsylvania. Bucks County has approximately 25,000 active permits. The county renews approximately 5000 permits a year. Permit issuance is conditional to a PA State Police background check for criminal history.

The fee for the new license is $40. Paper permits will continue to be available for $19, but must include two identical color photographs. Applicants can purchase photographs at the sheriff offices for $10. Current license holders can upgrade to the new card for a $21 fee.

Applications are accepted at the following locations:
