Heat Watch Issued

The National Weather Service has issued an ExcessiveHeat Watch for the Southeast Pennsylvania region, including Bucks County, through Tuesday, July 18 th. An Excessive Heat Watch means that a prolonged period of hot, humid weather is expected. There will be an increase in humidity for Monday and Tuesday. The humidity, combined with the heat, will result in dangerous conditions. Monday should be the hotter of the two days with some locations in the Philadelphia metropolitan area expected to reach 100 degrees. Afternoon heat index values are forecast to range from 102 to 108. Fans are available through the Area Agency on Aging for seniors in need who are residents of Bucks County.

The Bucks County Area Agency on Aging advises seniors that extreme hot weather can cause serious heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion. The best precaution during a heat wave is to remain indoors with an air-conditioner or in a ventilated room with a fan. Unless restricted, drink plenty of non-alcoholic beverages to prevent dehydration. You may also visit any of the thirteen Senior Community Centers located throughout the county.

If you are experiencing symptoms such as faintness, dizziness, nausea, weakness, heavy sweating, etc., CONSULT A PHYSICIAN! The public is also encouraged to check in on their elderly neighbors and family members. Seniors may call the phone numbers listed below for help during this heat emergency.
