Bucks County Hazardous Waste Recycling Program Enjoys Record Participation Numbers on July 22

Bucks County residents turned out in record numbers July 22 during the six-hour Hazardous Waste Recycling Program at Warwick Township’s Middle Bucks Institute of Technology (MBIT).

Recycling CenterAccording to planner Lale Byers, who coordinates the county recycling program, a site-record 1,611 households from Bucks and neighboring Montgomery County dropped off hazardous materials, including computer monitors, keyboards and processors, car batteries and household hazardous waste.

Throughout the day, a dozen volunteers directed a steady stream of vehicles to the appropriate receptacles, which were located throughout one of MBIT’s parking lots. Workers steadily built multiple pallets of used computer parts, binding them with shrink wrap to be loaded into 53-foot tractor trailer beds.

Byers also reported that the event produced 10,053 pounds of lead-acid battery contributions, adding that subsequent Hazardous Waste Recycling Program events are scheduled as follows:

  • recycling center Aug. 12, Bucks County Tech. H.S., 640 Wistar Road, Bristol Township
  • Sept. 30, Quakertown Community Pool , Mill Street, Quakertown

Participants may jettison as many as three computers systems, and up to 25 gallons (or 220 pounds) of hazardous materials per household.
