Bucks County Commissioners Announce Golf Course Improvements
Last summer, the Bucks County Commissioners resolved to improve conditions at the Oxford Valley Golf Course-today they can say with confidence that they succeeded.
On March 1, 2006, the commissioners hired two course managers, Denny Bonner and Michael Bernilovitch, to oversee the course. Bonner and Bernilovitch conferred with regular golfers to get an idea of where improvements needed to be made, and set about completing them. They have also taken daily maintenance to a new level, keeping the fairways short and the greens shorter.
“The course has been improved considerably since last summer when the need for repairs was brought to our attention,” said Commissioner Chairman James F. Cawley, Esq. “The new course managers have done an excellent job with general upkeep and restoration.”
Along with regular maintenance, Oxford Valley Golf Course has also improved tee boxes and reconditioned putting greens. The sixth tee, in need of the most refurbishing, was completely reconstructed during the fall, and other improvements are currently in the works.
William Mitchell, director of Parks and Recreation, sees this as a cooperative effort between the county and its residents. “The golfers who play here had a better idea of what needed to be fixed, and in what order, and were instrumental in discussing ideas with the managers,” he said.
The commissioners will visit the course today to inspect the improvements firsthand.
