Monday, July 31, 2006

Between 10 a.m. and Noon on Monday, July 31, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection will conduct aerial black fly suppression operations along the Delaware River and Tohickon Creek in Bucks County.

According to the Bucks County Health Department, the suppression program will involve spraying of the biological larvicide, Vectobac 12AS. The brown liquid has a fish oil odor and a viscous consistency. The spraying will be done by helicopter. Residents should anticipate low passes over the water in the targeted areas.

This operation will be conducted on a weather-permitting basis. Possible landing zones include Riegelsville, Tinicum, New Hope and Upper Makefield.
