Commissioners Remind Bucks Seniors About Free Fan Program
Heat Advisory to Last Until 8 p.m. Thursday
As an excessive heat watch for Bucks County is scheduled to continue through Thursday, the Bucks County Commissioners want to remind area seniors of the Area Agency on Aging’s (AAA) free fan program.
Free fans, donated by PECO, are available through AAA for Bucks County residents in need, age 60 and older. To receive a fan call 215-348-0510 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday - after hours and weekends call 1-800-243-3767. Residents can pick them up at the Doylestown office, or if needed, delivery is available.
The Bucks County AAA advises seniors that extreme hot weather can cause heat-related injury. The best precaution is to remain indoors with an air-conditioner or in a ventilated room with a fan. Unless restricted, drink plenty of non-alcoholic beverages to prevent dehydration. Those experiencing symptoms such as faintness, dizziness, nausea, weakness, heavy sweating, etc., should consult a physician.
The commissioners encourage Bucks Countians to check in on their elderly neighbors and family members. They may also visit any of the 13 senior community centers located throughout the county. Click here or call AAA for a listing of the centers. For assistance during the heat watch call the numbers listed below.
