CSI: Doylestown
Crime Scene Training is Collaborative Effort Between County, PDs

Over 20 police officers from just as many departments throughout Bucks County will have the chance to put their newly learned crime scene investigative skills to the test next week. Chasing down fingerprints and other physical evidence, as well as photographing the crime scene, will be the order of the day on Monday, Nov. 20 at training being conducted in concert with Bucks County’s Emergency Management Agency.

Doylestown Borough Police Chief James Donnelly, who is spearheading the training, says the building where the crime scene investigation training will be conducted is being provided by the County of Bucks. “In order to have realistic training, the site is everything,” he noted, adding, “We’re grateful to the commissioners for providing such an authentic training location.”

Four instructors will occupy the county building at 250 Broad Street in Doylestown and create four separate mock crime scenes. Police officers led by team leaders in group of five, will use their recently acquired forensics skills to get to the truth about the homicide, burglary, or aggravated assault that “occurred” in that room.

Donnelly notes that in addition to providing the site, Bucks County is also paying for the four instructors at Monday’s drill.

“The commissioners are committed to helping enhance law enforcement capabilities in the community for our residents,” noted Chairman Jim Cawley. “We’re glad to be able to assist and are certain that under Chief Donnelly’s leadership, the program will be a great success.”

Monday will be the first opportunity the CSI teams will have to apply their individual training into a collective team effort.
