Commissioner Jim Cawley Joins Central Bucks Senior Center Sticky Bun Assembly Team
The label affixed to the top of each package says it all: “The Central Bucks Senior Citizens put all their love in these delicious cinnamon buns.”
As Bucks County Commissioner Jim Cawley can attest, the smells and tastes permeating Doylestown’s Central Bucks Senior Center are a treat for sweet lovers anywhere.
“This is very impressive,” Cawley said after a crew of workers like Susan Kulick and Julia Bizon took turns moving the brown sugar-and-cinnamon dough through a series of stations.
“I enjoyed seeing the dedication and care that goes into every dozen. It’s a great project.”
The fresh-out-of-the-oven buns retail for $4.50 (plain), $5.00 (raisin) and $5.50 (nuts and raisin). A sign outside the senior center, which is located at 700 N. Shady Retreat Rd., advertises their availability. Otherwise, news of the product travels largely by word of mouth.
According to senior center officials, the baking commences at 5 a.m. during the last Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each month. Over the course of those three days, the staff makes more than 800 dozen buns.
During previous stops on his tour of county departments, Cawley has spent time as a fire inspector, security screener, tile maker, weights and measurements inspector, to name just a few.
