Bucks County Commissioners Announce Addition of Two Outdoor Shelters at Bucks County Corrections Facility
County Saves $20,000 through Partnership with Doylestown Hospital

As a courtesy to the hundreds of visitors who travel to the Bucks County Corrections Facility (BCCF) each week, the Board of Bucks County Commissioners have installed two sturdy, bus-stop style shelters for the facilities.

One of the heavy-duty structures, measuring 10 feet by 12 feet, has been placed directly in front of the BCCF steps, where there is an extensive amount of activity around regular visiting hours. Another has been installed in back of the facility as an inclement weather courtesy to walking-post corrections officers. Both shelters will be painted to match the BCCF colors.

Through the combined financial vision of the commissioners, corrections officials and the county Purchasing Department, the shelters were acquired from nearby Doylestown Hospital at a savings of approximately $20,000 to county taxpayers. The only costs incurred with the installation involved a $1,500 moving fee.

“We are pleased to be able to offer our corrections facility visitors a place to seek refuge from inclement weather,” said commissioners’ Chairman Charley Martin. “We understand these are high-traffic areas where family and friends wait faithfully to spend a few moments with loved ones.”

Commissioner Sandy Miller, who chairs the county Prison Oversight Board, thanked the hospital for its assistance, adding, “These shelters have been strategically placed to help those who spend time at our corrections’ facilities. They represent an addition that will be welcomed by visitors and employees for many years to come.”
