Bucks County EOC Activates, Alerts Community Alert Network

With a flood warning in effect this morning, the Bucks County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) activated its emergency operations center (EOC) at 5:30 a.m. and notified 547 residents along the Neshaminy Creek to be prepared for minor flooding via its community alert network (CAN). According to EMA Director John Dougherty, the creek is expected to reach 10 feet in Langhorne by 10:30 a.m. Flood stage is 9 feet.

Homes along the Neshaminy are not expected to be affected by the flooding, due to the county’s home elevation/buyout program. Commissioner Chairman Charles H. Martin points out that because of the program, in which over 100 homes have been razed and another 45 elevated, those families have been removed from harm’s way in previous flooding episodes including the most recent, this month.

As of 9:30 a.m., New Britain Township was the only municipality to declare a state of emergency because of a large number of street closures. The latest information provided to the EOC is a total of 18 road closures scattered throughout the county.
