Bucks County EOC Reports Neshaminy Crested in Penn’s Park
With a flood warning in effect this morning, the Bucks County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) activated its emergency operations center (EOC) at 5:30 a.m. and notified 547 residents along the Neshaminy Creek to be prepared for minor flooding via its community alert network (CAN).
According to EMA Director John Dougherty, the creek crested at 17.5 feet at Penn’s Park and as of 3:00 p.m., was measured at 16.8 feet. In Langhorne, the creek will crest at approximately 4:00 p.m. at slightly over 11 feet. That means the creek reached the top of its banks, but did not spill over.
The EMA was notified that two municipalities declared states of emergency earlier this morning, New Britain and Solebury townships. No flood threat is projected along the Delaware River, nor is there a projected impact in lower Bucks where the Delaware and Neshaminy meet.
Homes along the Neshaminy were not affected by the flooding, due to the county’s home elevation/buyout program. Commissioner Chairman Charles H. Martin points out that because of the program, in which over 100 homes have been razed and another 45 elevated, those families have been removed from harm’s way in previous flooding episodes including the most recent, this month.
