Commissioners Urge Bucks Countians to Visit www.firedog.com and Register Vote for Newportville Fire Co.

When young Matthew Rosales lost his battle with brain cancer several years ago, it had a ripple effect on an entire community. Adopted by the Newportville Fire Company after he was diagnosed, Matthew would be transported by the firefighters - including his father, Jose, a volunteer – in one of their shiny fire engines to his doctor’s appointments or to school when possible. He was also made an honorary fire chief.

Matthew’s mother, Dawn, penned an essay in memory of her son, which is now considered finalist # 2 in a nationwide pool acknowledging those we recognize as heroes.

From Saturday, April 28 through Sunday, May 13, Bucks Countians will have the opportunity to support the Rosales family and the Newportville Fire Company by logging onto http://web.firedog.com/acrossamerica/finalist.aspx?fi=2 to vote for Dawn Rosales’s heartfelt essay. Already chosen as a top-10 contender in the nation, the essay will now be one of those 10 submissions in the contest that could yield up to $100,000 in winnings.

“We strongly urge all Bucks Countians to stand behind the Rosales family and the firefighters who were there in a critical time of need for this family,” noted Commissioner Chairman Charles H. Martin. “Anyone can vote, so spread the word to your family and friends.”

Martin also notes that to bolster the county’s efforts at spreading the word, all 2,600 employees have been notified of the contest and are being encouraged to support Newportville’s efforts. The county’s Emergency Services division has also sent word to all firefighters in the county.
