Bucks County Commissioners Announce Housing Authority to Install Sprinkler System at Grundy Tower in Bristol Borough
With urging from the Bucks County commissioners, the Bucks County Housing Authority (BCHA) will soon install a fire sprinkler system for residents at Grundy Tower in Bristol Borough. Grundy, an income-qualified senior housing unit, is the only high-rise facility owned by the BCHA. It has 176 units. Although the building is grandfathered from requiring a sprinklers system, the commissioners felt it prudent, nonetheless.
“Our first concern is the safety of the residents at Grundy,” noted commissioners’ Chairman Charles H. Martin, speaking on behalf of his fellow commissioners, James F. Cawley and Sandra A. Miller. “Given that the building is occupied by a senior population and is a 14-story high-rise, it’s clearly the right decision.”
The BCHA will expend approximately $700,000 in capital project funds for design and construction of the project, according to Executive Director Donald Grondahl. The official design phase begins this week, with construction anticipated to start in November.
