Bucks County Commissioners Recognize Corrections Officers of the Year During Annual Ceremony

As a key element of National Corrections Officers Week, which is being celebrated this year from May 6-12, the Board of Bucks County Commissioners, COO David Sanko and Director of Corrections Harris Gubernick honored Bucks County Corrections Facility Officer Dexton LeBlanc and Women’s Community Corrections Center Officer Nancy Cain as the 2007 Bucks County Corrections Officers of the Year.

LeBlanc has served the county for the last 17 years, while Cain has been a member of the Corrections staff for 20 years. They received their awards during the department’s annual picnic, today in Doylestown Twp.

Corrections officers receive commendations from Commissioner Miller, Corrections Director Harris Gubernick and Commissioner Martin“It is our privilege to recognize both Officer LeBlanc and Officer Cain for their distinguished efforts on behalf of the citizens of Bucks County,” said Commissioner Chairman Charles H. Martin.

Commissioner Sandra A. Miller, who chairs the county Prison Oversight Board, added her praise of both officers, noting, “It is through their service that our Corrections Department received a 100-percent compliance rating during the most-recent state inspection.”

Gubernick echoed the commissioners’ words from his unique perspective as the man in charge of the county Corrections operation: “Both individuals have demonstrated through their job performance to be fine corrections officers. They have been consistent, and that is why their supervisors and the Corrections administration recommended them for this honor.”

In addition, eight Corrections staff members received “Corrections Accreditation” certificates. The program is intended to provide a Department of Corrections applicant recognition for excelling in law enforcement and training.  It encourages community service commitments as part of the application process, including work with youth groups, religious and volunteer organizations.
