Commissioners Announce Bucks County Household Hazardous Waste Program in Full Swing
Next Event Slated for Saturday, June 9 at Bedminster Twp.’s Upper Bucks Vo-Tech
Momentum for Bucks County’s annual Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and Old Computer Collection Program continues to build. On May 12, the program’s first 2007 event was held at the Lower Makefield Corporate Center-South. On a clear, 72-degree day, the six-hour event drew a record 1,093 participants from 36 of the county’s 54 municipalities, according to county Recycling Planner Lale Byers.
“We encourage all residents to continue to take advantage of this valuable program. It offers a unique opportunity to properly dispose of these items that might otherwise become harmful to the environment,” noted Charles H. Martin, chairman of the Board of Bucks County Commissioners. “It’s extremely encouraging to see more and more participants at our five respective county sites each year.”
The Lower Makefield trends indicate that an increasing number of participants are disposing of computers in this drive-by, drop-off format. A total of 597, or 59 percent of the total, disposed of either computer equipment only or some combination of household hazardous waste and computer equipment.
Municipalities with the most participants during the May 12 event included Lower Makefield (288), Middletown Twp. (149), Newtown Twp. (113) and Northampton Twp. (106). During the sign-in process, a poll asked participants to disclose how they learned about the program. The leading sources were newspaper and county website.
The remaining collections are rain or shine, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., as follows:
- Saturday, June 9, Upper Bucks County Area Vo-Tech School, 3115 Ridge Rd.., Bedminster Twp.
