Bucks County Continues 2007 Hazardous Waste & Computer Recycling Program, Saturday, July 14
Event Will Take Place, Rain or Shine, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Middle Bucks Institute of Technology, 2740 Old York Rd. (Rte. 263), Warwick Twp.

Bucks County residents continue to turn out in droves for the 2007 Southeastern Pennsylvania Regional Household Hazardous Waste and Computer Recycling Program. On May 7, at the Lower Makefield Corporate Center South, a site-record 1,093 participants dropped off hazardous waste, computers, and other environmentally threatening items. On June 9, at the Upper Bucks Area Vocational Technical School, a site-record 733 participants capitalized on the opportunity.

The popular program will host the third of five 2007 county stops on Saturday, July 14, rain or shine, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Middle Bucks Institute of Technology, 2740 Old York Rd. (Rte. 263), in Warwick Twp. Last year, the Middle Bucks site drew a record 1,621 participants. Since its 1991 inception, almost 40,000 people have taken advantage of the program, which is sponsored by the Board of Bucks County Commissioners and the Planning Commission and operated by county Recycling Coordinator Lale Byers.

Participating households may jettison as many as three computer systems and up to 25 gallons or 220 pounds of hazardous materials at the drop-off points. The program is not open to businesses.

Acceptable items include pesticides (Chlordane, Malathion, rodent poison, etc.), flammables (oil-based paint, paint thinner spot removers, gasoline, kerosene, heating oil), caustics (ammonia-based cleaners, oven cleaner, drain cleaner), toxics (photographic chemicals, pool chemicals, weed killer, antifreeze, mercury), button-type household batteries, lead-acid batteries (car, marine, motorcycle and truck) and propane tanks of 20 pounds or less.
