Commissioners Approve 2007 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Allocation of $1.56 Million
Program to Support 31 Municipalities, Non-Profit Organizations
The Bucks County Board of Commissioners, in conjunction with the county Department of Community and Business Development, today voted to accept $1.56 million of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) contracts for 31 subgrantees. The approval took place during the commissioners’ bi-monthly meeting at the Pennridge Senior Center in Silverdale Borough.
“We are pleased to offer our support for the diverse group of organizations and municipalities that receive support from the CDBG program,” noted Charles H. Martin, chairman of the commissioners’ board. “This funding stream helps us collaborate with members of the public to identify worthy recipients.”
The $1.56 million figure represents a substantial increase over the 2006 total of $1.22 million. The list of projects to be funded by the CDBG funds are wide-ranging in geographical orientation, including $40,000 for roof replacement at the Penndel Mental Health Center, $58,600 for road improvements in Doylestown Borough, $69,000 for furnace replacement at the Morrisville Library, $60,000 for road paving in Warminster Twp., $110,300 for handicap ramp accessibility in Middletown Twp., $120,000 for American Red Cross Shelter operations in Levittown, and $92,450 for historic restoration of the Stover-Myers Mill in Bedminster Twp. The Bucks County Community Development Advisory Board consists of 24 members, including township and borough officials, non-profit and citizen representatives. Each year, the board’s recommendations are published in local newspapers to solicit public input within a 30-day period.
