Commissioners Urge Caution From Area Seniors During Heat Warning
Area Agency on Aging, Senior Centers Are Available for Assistance
The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Bucks County from noon today through Wednesday, August 8th at 8 p.m. An Excessive Heat Warning is a period of hot, humid weather, resulting in dangerous conditions.
The public is encouraged to check in on elderly neighbors and family members. You may also visit any of the 13 Senior Community Centers located throughout the county. The Bucks County AAA has extended the hours at selected senior centers for people to visit and get out of the heat:
- Lower Bucks - Bristol Township Senior Center, 2501 Bath Road, Bristol
- Open until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday
- Central Bucks –Ben Wilson Senior Center, 580 Delmont Ave., Warminster
- Open until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday
- Upper Bucks – Pennridge Senior Center, 146 E. Main St., Silverdale
- Open until 6:00 pm. Tueday and Wednesday
Free fans are available to eligible senior residents of Bucks County (age 60+) who do not currently have a fan or air conditioner. The Bucks County AAA advises seniors that extreme hot weather can cause serious heat stroke or heat exhaustion. The best precaution is to remain indoors with an air-conditioner or in a ventilated room with a fan. Unless restricted, drink plenty of non-alcoholic beverages to prevent dehydration. If you are experiencing symptoms such as faintness, dizziness, nausea, weakness, heavy sweating, etc., CONSULT A PHYSICIAN.
