Commissioners Help Bucks County Community College Fulfill Promise of Lower Bucks Campus
Sept. 6 Ribbon Cutting Celebration Offers Thanks to County Board
After assuming the presidency of Bucks County Community College 15 years ago, Dr. James J. Linksz understood the need to think aggressively about building a campus in the lower portion of Bucks County. The results of that vision, which were supported wholeheartedly by county Commissioners Charles H. Martin, chairman, James F. Cawley, Esq., and Sandra A. Miller, were on vivid display during a festive ribbon cutting ceremony on the morning of Thursday, Sept. 6.
“This is a great day for Bucks County,” Chairman Martin told a large crowd of dignitaries and students in the campus’ scenic, glass-encased atrium after presenting Dr. Linksz with a county flag. “You truly, truly have a lovely building here. This is one of the finest community colleges in the commonwealth, if not in the country. I offer my congratulations.”
Commissioner Miller, who attended Bucks County Community College and formerly served as a college trustee, beamed with pride as she stepped to the podium. “Congratulations, kudos and thanks for bringing the dream to fruition,” she said.
Commissioner Cawley introduced himself to the gathering as a “proud resident of lower Bucks County,” adding his congratulations to Dr. Linksz, Board of Trustees Chair Elizabeth Fineburg and BCCC Foundation Board of Directors President William C. Brady.
“This was a collective process,” Dr. Linksz told the assemblage. “We could not have done this without the support of the county commissioners and our legislative partners.”
By the time phase two of the campus is completed later this year, the new Lower Bucks campus will total 55,000 square feet, including 21 classrooms, six computer labs, a biology lab, an allied health lab, a library, and a bookstore. On Saturday, Sept. 8, the Lower Bucks campus will host a community day from noon to 4 p.m. For more information about the college and its three facilities (Bristol Twp., Newtown and Perkasie), visit www.bucks.edu.
