Commissioners Urge Gov. Rendell to Manage Delaware River Reservoir Levels
Flood Task Force Recommendations Delivered at Delaware River Basin Commission Meeting
The Board of Bucks County Commissioners, Charles H. Martin, chairman, James F. Cawley, Esq. and Sandra A. Miller, is committed to ensuring the public safety of more than 620,000 residents. In that vein, the commissioners empanelled the Bucks County Delaware River Flood Task Force in May, 2007. Comprised of officials from the county’s 17 riverfront municipalities, the Delaware River Flood Task Force has conducted monthly meetings to examine flood-mitigation options.
The commissioners forwarded a letter to Pennsylvania Gov. Edward G. Rendell, Pennsylvania DEP Secretary Kathleen McGinty, Pennsylvania DEP Deputy Secretary Cathy Myers and the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC), urging them to support an interim policy implementing year-round reservoir releases and mandatory safety voids.
“We are proud to support the recommendations of our Delaware River Flood Task Force, which has produced a strong array of suggestions under the direction of its chairman, John Burke of New Hope Borough,” Chairman Martin noted.
